Our History

In the sweaty summer of 2008, a guy named E started the Austin Filmmakers Meetup on Meetup.com. His idea centered on making a movie together each month. They were off to a good start with a strong script, written by Marlayna Glynn Brown. But sometime during production, E had to leave Texas suddenly.

Unfortunately, he left behind an unpaid cameraman, a surprised crew and an extremely eager group left hanging & hungry for more. In stepped the charming Mike Rembis of Best Productions to save the day. After resolving the outstanding debts, progress continued. The cast & crew of on the set of People That Do Something were finally doing something again.

In December 2008, the group held it's first official screening for the public. Five completed projects screened at the First Annual Holiday Bash & Screening for more than 100 wide-eyed viewers. The group's first film, a short drama entitled, People That Do Something was accompanied by an short unconventional horror comedy Great Roommate Manny, along with a 30 second spot for Doritos called It Matters!, a short comedy about two women and an unliekly man entitled Mr. One-Note, and Anthem, a short film based on a book by Ayn Rand. The films were fabulous and the room was filled with much happy energy.

But, good things never last forever. Only weeks later, Mike Rembis would hear Florida calling. He would go, but not before passing the torch to H.Cherdon Bedford. Appropriately, the first night of the Era of Cherdon fell a mere two days after Valentine's Day. With her she brought name tags and printed forms. She even whipped up a side of organization & a meeting agenda pie. Currently the Group Organizer, H.Cherdon continues working with Austin Film Meet members to perfect the group recipe.
