RED Digital Cinema has said for a while now that they are going to make an announcement on October 30th. That announcement has not appeared just yet, but they have dropped a few hints:
- A new sensor has been in development (called the Mysterium-X)
- New products will not go through a beta testing phase (like the RED One did); All features will be available at the product release
- Current owners of the RED One will have a trade-in option to upgrade, plus an option to keep their current camera and still get a discount for whatever-it-is
My guess would be that they will begin taking orders for the Scarlet camera and have an upgrade for the RED One.
Unfortunately, RED has also said that whatever they announce will not come out any time soon. They’ve had some manufacturing delays, apparently. Stay tuned to the RED website for updates.
