Casting Call for “The Last Birthday on Earth”
Rose, a film student at the University of Texas, is casting for her next short film, about a family that is in the midst of the apocalypse, where a woman prepares a cake for her husband so they can celebrate his birthday one last time before the end of the world.
Submit a self tape using one the side provided. For your self tape please state your name, the character you are auditioning for, and height in a full body shot. And then shoot your side from the chest up. You do not need to have it memorized, and a reader is not required.
There will be a rehearsal on zoom (or in person if availability permits) the week before the shot to go over character and blocking.
The shoot will take place Friday March 27th in Austin, Tx
Compensation: The final edit of the film will be provided to you. Food will also be provided during shoot. Actors will be unpaid

Characters:
CINDY
Any Ethnicity, 25-35 years old
The perfect house wife who smiles through the pain, she ignores the bad things and pretends they aren’t real. She wants to fix everything. Preferred that the Actress is able to cry. Brief intimacy required; holding hands, dancing, kissing on the forehead.
MAXWELL
Any Ethnicity, 25-35 years old
Despite getting injured while serving for his country, he is still a charming man, but he knows what’s coming and is no longer afraid of death. Brief intimacy required; holding hands, dancing, kissing on the forehead.
SIDE:
Cindy is in the kitchen mixing together ingredients to make a cake. Maxwell happily knocks on the wall to get her attention with a charming smile on his face.
Maxwell: Something smells good in here.
Cindy: Happy Birthday Handsome.
Maxwell: (Looking at Cindy) Thank you, mmm that looks good. Oh and the cake looks alright too.
Cindy: Charming as ever. I like this suit on you, come here.
Maxwell starts to walk over but stumbles on his bad leg.
Cindy: Maxwell! Oh honey please be careful
Maxwell: I forget how clumsy I am these days. I can’t wait till this is all over.
Cindy’s mood shifts from excitement to fear
Maxwell: I’m sorry that was –
Cindy: It’s fine.
Maxwell: No honey I –
Cindy’s smile drops. Maxwell knows he messed up.
Cindy: Maxwell it’s fine. I know you didn’t mean that.
Maxwell: Cindy … You’ve seen the news, they’re saying it could happen any moment now and our city is a prime target.
They don’t yell at each other as they are not angry, just frustrated at the world.
Cindy: It’s just propaganda to get us to buy more war bonds. We’re fine Max!
Maxwell: Honey it’s all over the paper we can’t just ignore this.
Cindy: Well what am I supposed to do?
They look at each other for a moment, they relax.
Maxwell: You’re supposed to hurry up and put that cake in the oven, I have a wish I want to make for us.
Cindy: I’m sorry for –
Maxwell: It’s alright, you’ve had a lot on your plate. I love you
Cindy: I love you too.
