INTRO TO IMPROVISATION  Led by Jon Bolden

This class is for students of all levels who are ready to have fun and explore their creative side!  Learn the fundamentals of improvisation.  The class’ interactive exercises build listening and communication skills, heighten awareness and teach you how to be more playful, spontaneous and flexible.  Learn improvisation exercises for performance or rehearsals that teach you how to think on the spot, how to manipulate your physicality, and how to create characters in the moment.

IMPROVISATION FOR THE ACTOR  Led by Jon Bolden

This class is for actors who are looking to sharpen their improvisation skills or improvisers who are interested in acting.  This class will take students through exercises focusing on being in the moment, finding the depth in a scene, and creating seamless chemistry with your scene partner.  Students will work on using improvisation for auditions, while developing fluid and seamless characters spontaneously.  Learn how to be specific and honest for rich scene work. Previous improvisation training required.

Read more about the instructor: Jon Bolden is a B. Iden Payne Award nominated director, instructor, and improvisational actor living in Austin, TX. He teaches courses at The Hideout Theatre, Austin’s oldest improv theater. He can be seen performing weekly with award-winning comedy troupe, Bad Boys or directing productions such as Manhattan Stories: Improvised Wooden Allen or Nothing and Everything: Anton Chekhov inspired Original Plays. After studying theater from Marietta College in Ohio, Jon moved to Austin in 2006, bringing his theatrical passion to the city’s booming improv scene. In 2010, he had the honor of studying with Keith Johnstone, one of the founding fathers of modern improvisational theory. Since then, Jon has taught specialized workshops on improvisation in Alaska, Seattle, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Houston. He is one of the co-producers of The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, Austin’s oldest and largest comedy festival.
