Synopsis: The threat of violence and deportation loom over the head of Sergio, a Latino-American, and his boyfriend Roy, an undocumented Filipino, as they wait to be transferred out of a jail’s holding cell.
This film is one of ten short films selected to be produced by filmmakers in the 2015 Undergraduate Thesis program at the University of Texas at Austin. Screenings occur in early May.
Character Breakdowns:
SERGIO – Lead role, Male (20-25) Hispanic. Sergio is an activist who has been arrested for civil disobedience to support his undocumented boyfriend, Roy. While in jail, Sergio and Roy struggle to keep both their love and freedom intact. Physical intimacy does not extend beyond being comfortable holding hands with Roy.
ROY – Lead role, Male (20-25) Filipino is preferred but can also be South-Asian or Desi. Roy is Sergio’s undocumented boyfriend, who is adamant in his beliefs about equal rights even in the face of deportation. Physical intimacy does not extend beyond being comfortable holding hands with Sergio.
INMATE #1 – Supporting role, Male (20-30), Hispanic, Lanky. Very blunt and talks himself up.
INMATE #2 – Supporting role, Male (25-35), African-American, Built or Heavier set. Seasoned inmate. Has been through this many times so is indifferent about the whole process.
OFFICER – Supporting role, Female (30-40), Any ethnicity. This role is non-paid and is a minor speaking role. She is an assertive officer that can stand her ground against the inmates.
INMATE #3 – Male, (25-40), Caucasian. Has a short temper, menacing. Minor speaking role, non-paid.
