BEGINNING ACTING FOR FILM & STAGE  Led by Mj Vandivier 
Our most popular class series! A gentle approach conducive to the beginner, this class will focus predominantly on scene study for film and stage. Learn how to establish meaningful and honest relationships through the art of active listening and responding. Learn the tools necessary to be “believable.” Develop your imaginative capacities, unleash your creative impulses, deepen your intuition, and sharpen the analytical skills necessary to “breakdown” a scene. This class is recommended prior to Acting for Film.

ACTING I AND II FOR FILM & STAGE  Led by Mj Vandivier
This course is for students with previous acting training, as well as students new to acting.  Students will learn how to establish meaningful and honest relationships through the art of active listening and responding. Games and improvisation will be used to unleash imagination and creative impulses, accessing emotional life.  Scene study is from film & stage scripts.

ACTING II FOR FILM & STAGE   led by Mj Vandivier
This pre-intermediate course is for students who have taken previous beginning acting classes and would like to build upon the foundation they have received. Students will practice scene study and/or monologue work.  Focus will be on strengthening scene breakdown, listening and responding to one’s scene partner and following one’s inner impulses. Additionally, students will explore their imaginative responses and emotional accessibility.

ACTING WITH BODY AND VOICE  Led by Mj Vandivier 
Becoming a multi-faceted character requires knowledge and use of the actor’s complete instrument: imagination, body and voice. Only with understanding and mastery of each component can the actor truly become fully expressive in his/her choices in the art of interpretive creating. Students will explore voice/body dynamics that will lead to unique acting choices in auditions and in work on specific roles. Mj Vandivier is a Veteran actress and Certified Lessac Voice/Body teacher. She will be using film and stage scripts and there will be some outside preparation.

THE SPEAKING VOICE 101 WITH RADIO THEATER  Led by MJ Vandivier
The voice is the most important tool for effective communication. Discover how you can make a great first impression with your voice or talk for hours without losing steam. Mj Vandivier, a Certified Lessac Voice & Body Trainer, leads and grounds students in the process of voice dynamics. From body-voice warm-ups to the most effective ways to master your “instrument,” Mj will guide you to a greater awareness and use of the power of your own natural voice. The last 3 classes of the session will focus on Radio Theater. Students will rehearse and record a performance in a drama or comedy radio show from the archives of Classic Radio Theatre. This class is recommended prior to Dialect training. There is a $15 materials fee included in tuition.

DIALECT TRAINING FOR FILM AND STAGE  Led by Mj Vandivier
In the fall we’re offering Southern, (great for films shot in and around Texas), and Irish. Spring will be British and German. The Summer offers Brooklynese and Australian. Instructor Mj Vandivier, practicing certified Lessac teacher, encourages actors to not only speak well, but also have the ability to step into a variety of accents whenever they are asked to do so. The Lessac approach to dialects is one of the easiest to understand, yet most comprehensive methods to learn. The need for accessing different accents continues to grow for voice over actors with games and apps as well as for film and the stage. Suggested prerequisite: Speaking Voice 101. There is a $5 materials fee included in tuition.

Marijane  Vandivier is a professional Equity actress with more than 50 years experience in  theatre, television, radio, commercial and film work; she just completed a role in the PBS 75th anniversary of Orsen Wells, “War of the Worlds,” radio show.

Mj studied at the American Theatre Wing in NYC, where she appeared off-Broadway.   Vandivier holds a B.S. in Psychology and Theatre from the University of Houston.  Marijane has been a certified lessac Voice and Body Teacher for over 18 years.

Early on Mj traveled singing with her show-band in Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, LA, New Orleans – ending in Houston where she took up residence and embarked on a successful 30 year TV career. Marijane performed in Houston at the renowned Regional Alley Theatre, numerous roles for Theatre Under the Stars, Houston Music Theatre and The AD Players.  Mj had the pleasure of working with Horton Foote in one of his favorite plays, “The Traveling Lady,” at Baylor University followed by performance in New York City at the Actors Studio.

In Austin Mj has performed at St. Edward’s Mary Northern Moody Theatre, Austin Playhouse, Tex-Arts, and Zachary Scott Theatre in  Vandivier has been a B. Iden Payne and recent Critic’s Table Award nominee.  Mj has taught at St. Edwards University and the State School of Acting where she also works with private clients.
