Casting eight actors, between ages of 21 and 65. Men and women of all ethnicities and body types. Story premise: Problem teachers interact in a “temporary reassignment center,” commonly known in New York as a Rubber Room, while their school districts adjudicate their cases. Some have been found drunk or high, some have molested or struck children, some have partied with students, and some have simply given over to disgruntled apathy. Until their cases are settled (typically with termination), they can receive a paycheck – if they report daily to the Rubber Room. Two “minders” take turns overseeing, and a district supervisor occasionally checks in on them. I like to work in the Mike Leigh-style — developing characters and story in close collaboration with the actors. Actors should be comfortable improvising as they develop a realistic character during the rehearsal process, but also able to work from a final script.
We will shoot after a rehearsal period. The shoot will be two days in early December of about 8 hours each. This is a paid job. Email director Tom Hackett at fancyman.tom@gmail for more information and for an audition time. Auditions will be held 7:30-9:30 p.m. 11/9 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 11/18 at Dougherty Arts Center. 1110 Barton Springs Road, Austin.
