FOUNDATIONS OF SINGING Led by Adam Roberts
This course provides an introduction to vocal technique for the beginning to advanced-beginning singer. Throughout our six class meetings, students will have the opportunity to sing both individually and as part of a group. This class is ideal for anyone who desires to gain a foundational knowledge of singing, including stage and film actors. Students are encouraged to focus on the musical styles that most interest them, with support from the instructor in identifying specific song choices. By the end of the course, participants will become better acquainted with the unique qualities of their individual voices. For optimal results, Foundations of Singing should be repeated multiple times prior to proceeding to the next level in our Singing Voice sequence. No prior singing experience necessary.

ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATRE INTENSIVE Led by Adam Roberts
This musical theatre intensive will provide a rigorous, eighteen-hour workshop experience for advanced participants. Our work will center primarily on each student’s existing rep and be conducted in master class format; additional topics covered will be determined by the needs and desires of the class as a whole. We’ll focus on musical theatre-specific vocal technique and methods for acting songs, as well as developing a new audition cut for each participant. Enrollment is limited to advanced students with prior training and experience.

Adam Roberts’ Austin credits include productions and/or faculty positions with Austin Conservatory of Theater (of which he serves as director), Austin Shakespeare, Ballet Austin, the Paramount and State theaters, Theater at the J (of which he is artistic director), St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, ZACH Theatre, and others. He is a contributing writer and arts critic for the Austin Chronicle and is currently authoring a book focused on music analysis for practitioners of musical theatre. Adam is also highly active as an interpreter of sacred music, having served as musical director at Calvary United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, Florida, and Covenant Presbyterian Church in Wellsville, Ohio; in Austin, he is co-accompanist at St. Luke United Methodist Church. He holds a Master’s degree in Music and College Teaching Certificate from the Florida State University and received undergraduate degrees from Kent State University and Youngstown State University’s Dan a School of Music.
