PROJECT: Casting call for undergraduate student film, 開. 開 is a short 7-10 minute short film that delves into what it’s like to be an Asian American and disconnected from your own culture to fit in. The protagonist, Jeremiah, propels himself forward into his culture in the small ways available to him in Texas until one mysterious encounter in a forest.

AUDITIONS: October 16th by appointment only.
Rehearsals: One mandatory rehearsal October 25th from 6-9P.M.
All other rehearsals will be scheduled based on actor availability and will be the week of October 23rd.
SHOOTING DATES: Shoot dates are October 27th-30th in various locations in Austin, TX.
COMPENSATION: Food provided during the shoot as well as film credit on IMDB!

CHARACTERS:
JEREMIAH:
Asian (20-30) elementary Mandarin level and English
JEREMIAH is a 22 year old Asian American (Taiwanese) who
lives alone in an urban town. His relationship with his
parents isn’t necessarily strained but they aren’t very
close. He is a tall, slightly toned man who thinks more than
he speaks.
NICK
Caucasian (24-35) English
NICK is a 24 year old American from Dallas, TX. He grew up in
Texas his whole life and thinks culture is a different
restaurant he goes to. He’s tall and has short cropped hair
and appears “clean cut” and professional.
WOMAN
Asian (35-50) can speak English (any level) and Mandarin (Intermediate)
A mother trying to get in and out of the grocery store as soon as possible. She strongly believes that not knowing your language of heritage is a shame but will explain it to you in a passive manner.
