Austin Film Meet focuses on making films, but we enjoy watching films too. You can see some great stuff at Austin Film Society’s Essential Cinema series. Screenings are on Tuesday nights at Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar for cheap ($6) or free for AFS members.
At each screening you’ll receive some rather thorough literature about the films. Next week is the end of a series of Billy Wilder‘s films, followed by a new series of contemporary Greek cinema. I hear the Greek films are quite dramatic, with one comedy thrown in. Be sure to check it out.
Essential Cinema [Austin Film Society]
Thanks for the mention of Essential Cinema. We also have a really great series called Avant Cinema – last night we hosted filmmaker Todd Rohal, who is new to Austin and had a line-up of hilarious shorts and a band streaming live from Austria over the internet! It takes place in our screening room, the audiences are small but it's a great way to talk to the presenting filmmakers and meet the others who are attending. Next up, Roger Beebe this Sunday at 7 PM. Thanks!
