During this Wordsmiths Session we have Pim Hendrix coming to speak with us about Loglines and their importance, as well as host a workshop to help others with logline development.
Pim Hendrix is originally from Australia, but has moved to Austin recently from Los Angeles, and has traveled extensively through twenty-five countries. He’s fluent in three languages and experienced in TV writing, feature writing, script editing, script consulting, script coverage and series development. On top of doing twelve years of journalism in Australia, he worked on seven different TV shows.
He has has six scripts in recent development to include: Boone the Bounty Hunter, The Hanging Tree, The Skin Between the Worlds, Scar Reef and Little Killer.
Pim has won the 2015 Mexico International Screenplay Contest, Fantasy Category of 2014 Table Read My Screenplay Contest, an Official finalist in the 2014 California Film Awards and the 2015 Barcelona International Film Festival, as well as a Semi-Finalist in the 2014 Screencraft Writing Fellowship.
Loglines are a basic description of the plot in your script. This is how you sell your script, get people interested in reading or making your script. It lets everyone know what they are getting into, and as a writer it helps keep you focused on your story and what you want to accomplish.
For example, the logline for Alien Vs Predator might be:
“The two mighty creatures slug it out underground using humans as bait.”
Or Independence Day:
“Only two men can save the world when Aliens attack and attempt to loot and destroy Earth on July 4th.”
Immediately we know what kinds of movies these are – with explosions, fighting, monsters, maybe a little gore. Right on! You can create something similar with just about any genre script.
We ask that you bring loglines to workshop through, or bring outlines in order to help come up with a logline for your script.
