Short Film Challenge Director Submission

So you wanna be a Director on a Short Film Challenge short film production? Excellent!!

Short Film Challenge Directors will lead a team through the process of making a film from Pre-production, through Production, and Post-Production to a completed short film. Final short films will be screened at a Screening Party in May 2024.

Directors may be inexperienced at directing, provided they have some experience in other areas of filmmaking. If you’ve never directed before and are new to filmmaking, we suggest trying out several other positions on Short Film Challenge teams first.

Directors may produce their own screenplay through the Short Film Challenge program if they have directed a project before in the challenge. Some exceptions may be made for especially experienced directors.

Being a Director can be pretty time-consuming. Please make sure you have enough time available to give the project the proper attention.

Directing is no easy job and is not for the faint of heart. But don’t worry. We will provide guidance for you along the way. Austin Film Meet hosts many educational events for filmmakers. Also, each team will have a Consulting Producer available as a resource. Directors will meet with a Consulting Producer at several Check Points through out the project. This is to help make sure the project is on track.

All Short Film Challenge production team positions are unpaid, including Directors.
